Mechanical Designer for Space Products – Team Leader
As a mechanical designer of space products, you will be called upon to collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop Photonics products for space applications. As part of one or more project teams, you will be responsible for establishing the concepts of our custom space products for international clients.
From the submission phase to the detailed definition, you will define the mechanical assemblies to ensure that the final product meets the specific needs of the customer and can survive the conditions of a defined space environment. As a Team Leader, you will be responsible for coordinating the activities related to its mechanical design in order to ensure the smooth progress of the project.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for mechanical system design of space assemblies:
- Understand customer requirements.
- Propose concepts that meet the requirements including cost targets and manufacturability.
- Choose/design the components according to the constraints to be respected.
- Integrate concepts from the disciplines of optical, electrical engineering, materials, structural and thermal analysis into a 3D model.
- Supervision of mechanical design team to lead mechanical innovations and improvements of the space photonic products in order to accommodate various customer requirements for size, mass, and thermal heat management.
- Responsible of overseeing mechanical tasks such as design, simulations, and space qualification test campaigns (TVAC, Vibration, Shock) within the mechanical design team on all space programs.
- Overseeing and writing test reports for qualification test campaigns.
- Assisting management in writing proposals, milestone presentations and reports.
- Perform opto-mechanical design using Solidworks, thermal and vibration simulations using ANSYS.
- Elaborate mass and volume budgets
- Perform radiation analysis and simulations using FASTRAD and OMERE software.
- Follow up with mechanical suppliers about manufacturing issues.
Qualifications Required
- Minimum Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 5 year of experience in mechanical structure design and design analysis
- Strong analytical ability in structural analysis, static & dynamic analysis, frequency response analysis
- Experience with Solidworks software is must
- Experience with ANSYS for thermal and vibration analysis is must
- Knowledge of FASTRAD and OMERE
- Space or Aerospace experience
- Experience with fiber optics is an asset
- Self starter with the ability to motivate others
- Ability to work well within a team
- Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
