For fiber optic networks which must traverse severe terrain or desolate areas, such as deserts, tundra or jungles, it is often desirable to have long span unrepeatered segments to minimize infrastructure and operational expenses. MPBC’s 2RU and Versa equipment has been deployed in some of the harshest terrestrial environments, including the Arabian desert, the Amazonian basin, Siberia and Northern Canada.
One such installation is in the Mackenzie Valley Fiber Link (MVFL), a 1,154-kilometre high-capacity fiber optic network between High Level, Alberta, and Inuvik, North West Territories, Canada.
MPBC’s 2RU ROPA and Raman amplification equipment facilitated the long reach segments of the network, delivering reliable, low-cost, high-speed digital telecommunication services to the Canadian North.
