Life science and Cancer research

Fiber lasers have a diverse range of applications in the medical field, such as surgery, therapy, diagnostics, and imaging, which goes to show how the medical field is an eminent consumer of fiber laser technology. There are plenty of qualities that a fiber laser possesses which make them favorable for applications in the medical field, such as their efficiency, precision, and their adaptability in wavelength and output power.

One particular example would be how fiber lasers are used in cancer research. Research has shown how femtosecond fiber lasers have been successful in the removal of cancer tissue. When pulsed lasers are used on the tissue, the effect of the laser pulse is strongly influenced by the time scale of the interaction, which is where femtosecond lasers come in. In the simplest sense, the laser can precisely target the bad tissue quick enough without harming any of the surrounding good tissue.

MPBC's line of ultrafast fiber lasers are compact and maintenance-free with a very good beam profile, and do not require optical alignment. They operate in a range traditionally covered by ultrafast Ti:Sapphire lasers and optical parametric oscillators. They generate linearly polarized nearly transformed-limited pulses with a pulse duration less than 200 fs, and power greater than 1 W.
